So Little Time and So Many Opportunities!

Can you believe school starts in exactly a week? Well, it does! If you are anything like I am, you are scrambling around trying to make sure that everything will be ready for that first day of school. Here is a look at my check-list. How does it compare to yours?

1. Set up a Mealpay Plus account to pay for lunches on-line! So much easier than sending lunch money to school, but there is a convenience fee.

2. Purchase school supplies. Consider buying a few extra things to donate.

3. Check the calendar to see what is happening on Wednesday (August 29th) from 4-7pm. Attend the play date at the Sandburg school playground if not already busy.

4. Drop off supplies, see the classroom, and meet the teachers from 1-3:30 on Friday (August 31st). Play date on the playground at Sandburg is happening at the same time. Can drop off supplies for donation there as well. Remember to look for the PTA volunteer slip or return the one I have to be more involved in the school.

5. Find more in-depth information on the PTA calendar for all of the above events. Read the blog while there!

¡Poco Tiempo y Muchas Oportunidades!

¿Pueden creer que la escuela comienza en exactamente ¡Pues bien, así es!.  Si usted es cono yo, debe estar tratando de organizar las cosas, viendo que todo esté listo para el primer día de escuela.  Miren mi lista de cosas por hacer.  ¿Se parece a su lista?

1. ¡Abrir una cuenta en Mealpay Plus para pagar los almuerzos en-línea! Más fácil que mandar dinero a la escuela, pero hay un cargo por el servicio.

2. Comprar los útiles escolares.  Considere comprar algo extra para donar.

3. Revisar el calendario para ver qué tengo pendiente para el Miércoles (29 de Agosto) entre las 4 y las 7pm. Ir a la Tarde de Juego en el jardín de Sandburg si no tengo compromisos.

4. LLevar los útiles a la escuela, ver la clase y conocer a los/las maestros/as el Viernes de 1 a 3:30 pm (31 de Agosto). Al mismo tiempo es la Segunda Tarde de Juego de Sandburg.  También ese día puede llevar útiles que va a donar.  Recuerde llenar la hoja de voluntarios del PTA si no tiene uno y si le gustaría involucrarse más activamente en la escuela.

5. Averiguar más información sobre estos y otros eventos del PTA seleccionando la pestaña “calendar”.  ¡Recuerde leer nuestra página mientras esté ahí! 

Off and Running

We've made it through registration in much better shape than last year thanks to the wonderful teachers and staff at Sandburg. Thank you to the teachers and staff AND parents who were able to help out!

And already it is time to be off to the next thing!

This year, there will be a running club at the school. It is called Girls on the Run and is a Dane County sponsored program. It's for girls in 3rd grade and up. Practices will be from 3:45-5:15 each Tuesday and Thursday starting the week of September 3rd and ending in early November. You can learn more and sign up at Girls on the Run. Please spread the word to Sandburg families that you think might be interested. Sara Batesky, a second grade DLI teacher, will be the coach.

For those of you who have younger children and even boys who might be interested, please e-mail us! If we have enough interest, we will start a second running club.

Listas para Correr

Lograrmos terminar las matrículas en mejor forma que el año pasado gracias a los maravillosos maestros y personal de Sandburg.  ¡Gracias a los maestros, personal Y padres que nos ayudaron!

¡Y ya es hora de prepararse para lo que sigue!.

Este año habrá un club de correr en la escuela.  Se llama Girls on the Run, is es un programa patrocinado por Dane County.  Es para niñas en 3er grado o mayores.  Las prácticas serán los Martes y los Jueves de 3:45 a 5:15pm comenzando el 3 de Setiembre y terminando a principios de Noviembre.

Puede aprender más sobre este programa y registrarse en Girls on the Run. Por favor corra la voz a las familias de Sandburg que piense que pueden estar interesadas.  Sara Batesky, una maestra de DLI de segundo grado, será la entrenadora.

Para los que tienen niñas menores o niños que estén interesados, por favor ¡e-mail us!   Si hay suficientes participantes, podemos iniciar un segundo club.

Registration Days!

Registration is this week Wednesday and Thursday! (More information on the calendar under the calendar tab.) Don't forget to save yourself time and a headache by filling out the paperwork on-line. You can even pay for the enrollment fees on-line for a $3 convenience fee! Go to MMSD Enrollment Forms today!

We are also still looking for volunteers to help ensure the day goes smoothly. There are several opportunities to help out in different ways. If you have some free time, please come help out! You can sign up to volunteer under the volunteer tab.

Días de Matrícula

¡Los días de matrícula son miércoles y jueves de esta semana! (Para más información ver el calendario seleccionando la pestaña “calendar”).  Ahorre tiempo y dolores de cabeza llenando previamente los documentos en línea.  ¡Incluso puede pagar la tarifa en línea por un cargo de servicio adicional de $3.00!  ¡Vaya hoy a la página de “MMSD Enrollment Forms”!

Aún estamos buscando voluntarios para ayudar a que el día transcurra sin contratiempos.  Hay varias oportunidades de ayudar en diferentes formas.   Si tiene algo de tiempo libre, ¡por favor venga a ayudarnos!.  Puede apuntarse como voluntario seleccionando la pestaña “Voluntarios”.

A lovely zucchini from the Sandburg Garden!

Just a reminder that we are gathering in the garden on Tuesday, August 21st from 6pm-8pm. Bring a camp chair or a blanket and a garden inspired dish to share. You can even check the garden out this weekend and take some of the over-sized produce home for yourself or to share with us that night! Or, just do some harvesting that night after we part ways.

¡Delicioso y Divertido!

Un recordatorio de que nos vamos a reunir en el jardín el Martes 21 de Agosto de 6pm a 8pm.  Traiga una silla de acampar o una cobija y compartamos alimentos inspirados por el jardín.  Incluso puede tomar algunos de los enormes vegetales que han crecido en el jardín y llevarlos a casa para utilizarlos.  O simplemente recolecte después.

Counting Down!

The start of school is only 3 weeks, but there are a lot of things happening before that first day! The newest items on that list are Sandburg Playdates! This is a wonderful opportunity for new students to learn some names and faces to make that first day a little easier and for returning students to catch up on how the summer went without a teacher shushing them! Be sure to check out the calendar for full details and a list of all the other things that are happening starting next week. Also, if you don't know, we are already looking for some parents to volunteer to help with the registration process. There are different opportunities available including greeting families, directing traffic (meaning in the hallways!), helping families sign up for the e-mail list, etc. Get involved early! Sign up to volunteer by going to the volunteer tab!

¡Cuenta Regresiva!

¡Faltan sólo 3 semanas para el comienzo de clases, pero hay muchas actividades antes del primer día!.   Entre lo nuevo que tenemos en la lista, están las ¡Tardes de Juego de Sandburg!.  Esta es una maravillosa oportunidad para que los nuevos estudiantes aprendan algunos nombres y caras que van a hacer más fácil el primer día de escuela, y para los que regresan, es una oportunidad de ponerse al día sobre lo que hicieron en verano ¡sin tener a una maestra de por medio!.  Asegúrese de revisar el calendario para detalles completos y tener la lista completa de todas las actividades a partir de la próxima semana.  Además, por si no lo sabían, estamos buscando padres que sean voluntarios durante el proceso de matrícula.  Hay diferentes oportunidades para servir, desde dar la bienvenida a las familias, dirigir el tránsito (¡en los pasillos!) , ayudar a las familias a suscribirse para la lista de e-mail, etc.   ¡Involúcrese desde el inicio!  ¡Llene el formulario de voluntarios seleccionando la pestaña “volunteer” en esta página.

Show Us Your Purple Pride

To help fill up the site, we have decided to have a little end of summer contest! It's easy and everyone who participates will win! Just go through your summer pictures and find one where your child is wearing his/ her Sandburg shirt, any other purple shirt, or a homemade shirt that says Sandburg on it. If you don't already have a picture, take one and e-mail a copy to sandbugpta4114@gmail.com! We'll add winning photos onto the Cougar Kids page! (Children will NOT be named! See the current example under the Cougar Kids tab.) Oh! If you don't have a Sandburg shirt, come to our first meeting or find our table at registration and you can order one! Show us your purple pride!

The current Sandburg PTA is making some new and exciting changes. This blog is one example of things to come! We are definitely planning to make use of technology and diminish the amount of backpack mail we send home and to have more communication with families.
